Orange chocolate cookies

I had fallen in love with the chocolate orange the first time I tasted them in U.S around 10 years back. That was my second trip to U.S and had taken loads of them back home.My Mom absolutely loved them.

From the time I had started some
serious baking,  I have been thinking of chocolate and orange combination in my mind. So, when I got the chance to bake something during holiday season, I searched in the internet for all combination of the words chocolate and orange and settled with orange chocolate cookies. The resulting cookies were really good and yummy. Now to the recipe.

Orange Chocolate cookies:

Ingredients:

1. Unsalted butter - 1 and a half sticks
2. White sugar - 3/4 cup
3. All purpose flour - 1 and 3/4 cup
4. Baking Powder - 1 teaspoon
5. Pure vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
6. Egg - 1
7. Orange zest - 2 tablespoons
8. semi-sweet chocolate chips - 1 ounce.(as per taste)
9. salt - 1/4 teaspoon

Points to note:

1. Pre heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. This recipe makes around 35 to 40 cookies
3. You can even use hershey's milk chocolate for this.
4. Make sure the butter and eggs are in room temperature.
5. Place the rack in the middle of the oven
6. If using non-stick baking sheet, do not grease it.

Cream the butter and sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy.Add egg and and vanilla and beat it up for two minutes. Melt the chocolate in microwave. In another bowl add flour, baking powder and salt and mix it thoroughly with a whisk.

Tip: You can use a sieve if you have one.But mixing the flour with whisk helps to mix in all the ingredients well and the result is as good as using a sieve.

Add the flour to the creamed mixture and incorporate it well. Divide the dough in two portions.Add the orange zest in one portion and the melted chocolate in the other portion.

The dough will be kind of sticky, so flour your hands well and take a small amount of each portion and mix them together to form one ball.

Bake them for 8 to 10 minutes. You can bake the orange and chocolate cookies separately too.All three variations are delicious.
