Kachayam - Gourmet sweet snack of TamilNadu

Kachayam is a popular sweet snack made in most of the kitchens in TamilNadu. My mom used to make this for us often when we were small kids. It is a quick tea time snack that can be made and kids will love it.

Ingredients:

All purpose flour - 1 cup
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Salt - a pinch
Baking soda - 1/4 teaspoon
Very ripe banana - 1
Rava(Semolina) - 2 teaspoons
Oil - To fry

Preparation:

Mash the banana well with a fork or in a blender.
In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, baking soda.
Add the banana and mix well.
Sprinkle very little water if required and make it to a thick batter.
Add the rava and just mix it a little.

Keep the pan and heat enough oil for frying the kachayam.
Spoon the batter into the hot oil and fry them till they turn nice brown color.

When its done, it will be crispy in the out and soft in the inside and delicious.

Serve them with tea/coffee/milk.

Tips/Notes: I got this super idea of using the ice-cream scoop for taking the batter and the result was these cute little round shapes of kachayam. I was so proud of myself for this brilliant idea. :)
