Ingredients
- Rice flour - 1 cup
- Urad dal flour - 1/4 cup
- Salt - as per taste
- Butter - 1 tablespoon
- Asafetida - 1/4 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Water - 1/2 cup
* Urad dal flour - Take around 1/4 cup of skinless full urad dal and roast it for a while till it turns light golden brown. Let it cool and grind it in a mixer till it becomes nice flour.
Preparation
- Take the rice flour, urad dal flour,salt and asafetida in a bowl. Add the butter and mix well. Add water little by little to make it to a soft dough.
- Add this dough to a murukku maker fitted with a star shaped disc and press to form star shaped murukkus.
- Move the murukku press in circular motion so that small spirals are formed.
- It doesn't matter if this murukku doesn't come round. You can also make this in long strips too.
- Heat oil in a kadai and when the oil is ready, drop the murukkus into the oil and fry till golden brown.
- Drain them in a tissue paper and store them in an airtight container after it cools down.
- Delicious homemade murukku is ready for you to snack on any time of the day with a hot cup of tea.
