Ingredients:
Tamarind Paste - 2 heaped teaspoons
If using normal tamarind , use a tennis ball sized.
Red chillies - 6
Chilli Powder - 1 and 1/2 teaspoon
Turmeric Powder - 1 teaspoon
Salt - As per taste
oil - 4 to 5 tablespoons
mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida powder - 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves - 3 sprigs
channa dal (Kadalai Paruppu) - 1 teaspoon(soak it in water for 15 minutes)
Ginger - 1 inch piece chopped finely
Preparation:
- Extract the pulp from the tamarind by soaking it in 1 cup of water or dissolve the tamarind paste in 1 cup of water.Keep it aside after adding turmeric powder and chilli powder to it.
- Add oil in a kadai. Do not think that the oil is too much.It has to be a little on the more side for this recipe.
- Once it is heated, add mustard seeds to splutter.
- Break the red chillies into half and add them. Stir it for a few seconds.
- Add ginger and soaked chana dal.
- Add curry leaves and asafoetida powder.
- Stir them well.
- Now, add the tamarind pulp and add 1 more cup of water.Add required salt.
- Let it boil for around 10 minutes in medium heat.
- The sauce has to reduce to half.Stir it once in a while.
- Once it is reduced, cool it and store it in an airtight container in the refigerator.
- You can mix this with hot rice and TA DA !!! Delicious puliyodharai is ready.
You can make the mix and store it and make delicious puliyodharai in a minute.This will be very good with Potato chips / Potato fry or dal vada.
